Smiley Bark is a Rotterdam-based shop for dog bowls, toys, beds and walk accessories, every one of them made by a European maker. We work only with producers in Europe, mainly in Portugal, Spain, Poland and Latvia, and we choose each product for its materials, how it is made and how it fits into a real home.
Where it started
My love for dogs isn't something that happened overnight. I spent most of my childhood around my grandfather's hunting dogs, watching how they worked and how little they asked for. Even as a child, I knew dogs weren't pets in our house. They were family.
Meeting Ricky
In 2022, in Spain, I met Ricky, my first dog of my own.
During a hard time in my life, he was by my side every day, and he showed me how much a dog can quietly change a person's life. That stayed with me. Our dogs give us so much, and they deserve a bigger place in our lives, and better things in it.
Ricky is the reason Smiley Bark exists. Watching what he actually used, and what sat in a corner untouched, is how the range came together. Not gear that is merely functional, but pieces that make a dog's everyday a little more comfortable and a little more beautiful: well made, honest, chosen with care.
Smiley Bark was founded for him. It's still chosen for dogs like him.
What we believe
You shouldn't have to choose between your home's aesthetic and your dog's comfort.
Most dog gear still looks like it was designed for a kennel floor, not a kitchen. We look for products made for dogs who sleep on sofas, go to restaurants and live alongside you, and for owners who think carefully about what they bring into their homes.
We only work with European makers
Every product we sell is made in Europe. That is a deliberate choice, not a marketing line: working with makers we can reach, visit and talk to directly is the only way we can stand behind what we sell.
The stoneware bowls and cups are thrown and glazed by hand in Portugal and Poland, and the wool toys are felted by hand in Riga, Latvia. The Summer Stripes bed is made in Spain, and the placemat and walk accessories come from Portugal and Spain. Every glaze is food safe, lead-free and cadmium-free, and if something doesn't last in Ricky's corner, I don't sell it.
The name
"Smiley Bark" comes from something simple: the look on a dog's face when they're exactly where they want to be, doing exactly what they love. That's what we're here for.
